Para los cachacos la Champeta ha sido, y sigue siendo, una música vulgar y de barriada, exclusiva de Cartagena y de algunos sectores barranquilleros. El atrevido José Antonio Támara León ha conseguido demostrarnos en este particularísimo ensayo, escrito con más entusiasmo que metodología científica que la Champeta es un género literario.

De su lectura podría quizás respaldarse la herejía de afirmar que tiene raíces mucho más cercanas a la poesía que las enarboladas por los juglares que se volvieron vallenatos.
